As some of you may know, I became a proud member of the Quarter Century Club this weekend – and what a weekend it was.
It started off with my boyfriend surprising me with a romantic (or what was supposed to be) bicycle wine tour in Niagara-on-the-Lake…
I was so excited to see the picturesque landscape and get a taste of what the Niagara wineries had to offer…
The idea was to have a nice, relaxing day biking from winery to winery but twenty minutes in…torrential downpour…
The rain might have ruined my hair and outfit, but it wasn’t going to ruin my day. By the end of the tour we were acting like kids again, riding through the puddles and splashing each other. It was a great day, which included visiting four wineries and of course, sampling 3 or 4 different wines at each ;)
Just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better, I arrived back in Guelph expecting to be greeted by my family for a simple birthday dinner, but was instead shocked to find a surprise party of my closest friends and family members waiting to celebrate with me. They sure know how to make an old gal feel special!
I want to thank everyone for making this one of my best birthdays yet! Obviously these photos aren’t going to win a Pulitzer Prize anytime soon but that doesn’t mean they still aren’t worth a thousand words (thank you Steve Jobs for blessing us with the iPhone and making this blog post possible).
Looking forward to seeing what 25 has in store for me!
My Feel Good Song Of The Day: Five for Fighting – 100 Years
Dress – Papaya, Vest – Blush, Necklace – Melrose Flea Market (Los Angeles), Hat – Nasty Gal, Sandals – Patch
Until I get some birthday money…wink wink…I have to continue shopping my own closet, mixing and matching different pieces to come up with new outfits. The other day I threw on this simple maxi dress and paired it with this fringe vest I’ve had for forever but have never worn. Instead of wearing the dress on its own, as I normally would have, adding the vest helps to make it a little more interesting.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
Feel Good Song Of The Day: Milky Chance – Stolen Dance
Top – Guess, Skirt – Forever 21, Shoes – Forever 21
This past weekend I went back to Guelph to attend my family friends’ joint surprise birthday party. I had a great time catching up with old friends and family, munching on catered food, and celebrating Ron and Heathers 60th!
I paired this black tank with my black high waisted skirt, and I topped it off with a bright lipstick to add a little pop of colour.
Speaking of birthdays…that reminds me that mine is coming up this weekend ;)
My Feel Good Song of the Day: Jay-Z – Young Forever
Dress – Forever 21, Slip – Nasty Gal, Hat – Nasty Gal, Sandal
Hope everyone has been enjoying their summer! I’ve spent the past week or so catching up with old friends and enjoying new restaurants and patios around Toronto. But all this fun has been taking a toll on the old bank account. So I decided to make the mature decision of staying away from the mall and shopping my own closet..time to practice what I preach.
I decided to pull out this Forever 21 dress that’s perfect for the warm weather we’ve been having. It’s a breezy sheer dress that is worn with a slip and easily accessorized with a hat or interesting handbag…and to think, I didn’t even have to open my wallet.
My Feel Good Song Of The Day: Lana Del Rey – Shades of Cool
T-Shirt – Urban Outfitters, Pants – Mendocino, Sunglasses – Forever 21, Bag – JustFab, Necklace – Forever 21, Shoes – Aldo
T-Shirt – The Same As Above, Pants – Urban Outfitters, Hat – Urban Outfitters, Bag – Melrose Flea Market (Los Angeles), Necklace – Melrose Flea Market, Shoes – Forever 21
T-Shirt – The Same As Above, Skirt – Forever 21, Necklace – Dynamite, Wallet – Coach, Shoes – Aldo
It’s pretty obvious that I like to buy pieces that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. This can easily be done with a basic tee.
In my first look, I paired the tee with slouchy silk pants and a ballet flat, which helps to dress the tee up a bit. If you want to dress this look up even further, adding a heel helps to give it that extra push.
In my second look, I paired the tee with high waisted jeans, creating a more casual look. Adding an accessory such as a bag or a hat helps to make the outfit a little more interesting.
In my third and final look, I paired the tee with a high waisted skirt and heels. This creates a fancier look, and adding a heel with a splash of colour can help to add some more fun to it!
So there you have it, three different ways to wear a basic t-shirt.

I haven’t been thrift shopping in a long time and I forgot how fun it is! I love browsing through pieces varying from different decades and eventually finding a hidden treasure. I think I found my favourite second hand store, and its called Patch. I had heard about it and finally got the chance to check it out when I was in Guelph the other weekend. There was so much to choose from and I ended up leaving with half the store! One of my favourite pieces that I left with was this blue velvet dress that I got for $24.99. The great thing about this piece is that it can easily be dressed up or down. Adding a heel or a casual jacket is a simple way to get that desired look that you are going for.
While I had a great time checking out Patch, I have yet to visit any of the thrift stores in Toronto. After having such good luck in my last thrift shopping adventure, I plan to visit some of the stores on Queen Street West soon and I will report my findings. In the mean time here is a guide to successful thrift shopping:
1. Make A Plan: Whether it’s just browsing or hunting for a specific item, decide what your purpose is before getting into a thrift store. Some thrift stores can be overwhelming and packed with all sorts of random items. If you already know what it is that you are looking for it makes it a lot easier to narrow down that section in the store.
2. Set Limits For Yourself: I made the mistake of not doing this the other weekend when I went shopping and ended up leaving with things that I didn’t really need. I’m weak. But one of the best parts of thrift shopping is getting to mix old and new pieces. You don’t have to buy a complete look at a store. You can mix something you have found with another piece already hanging in your closet.
3. Check To Make Sure Clothing Isn’t Damaged: Before you make a purchase it is a good idea to check to see if the item has any stains, rips, pulls, etc. You can also turn the item inside out to make sure they aren’t any tears or problems with the stitching.
4. Try Things On: Don’t make the rookie mistake of leaving the store without trying something on!
Time to get thrifty everyone!
My Feel Good Song Of The Day: Macklemore – Thrift Shop
Sorry I had to!
Dress – Forever 21, Sunglasses – Topshop, Shoes – Converse
Hope everyone had a great weekend! It was perfect weather to hang by the pool…which is exactly what I did. I had a couple of friends over and spent the day drinking peach Bellinis and Mojitos. I wore this cover up from Forever 21, which was perfect to throw on when I was coming in and out of the apartment grabbing drinks. With the low price of $17.80, I spent more money on the alcohol than I did on my outfit!
My Feel Good Song Of The Day: Choclair – Let’s Ride
Dress – Skirt, Sunglasses – Urban Outfitters, Shoes – 7th Sole (downtown Los Angeles)
It’s been a while but I’m back! Sorry for the delay but since exams ended I’ve been busy catching up with friends, relaxing poolside, cooling off on patios, and spending weekends at friend’s cottages!
This summer weather has also brought about a change in my wardrobe – get ready for a lot more colour!
Can’t wait to share some new pieces that I’ve added to my closet…and to see where my first summer in Toronto will take me.
My Feel Good Song Of The Day: Len – Steal My Sunshine
Top – Santee Alley (downtown Los Angeles), Jacket – H&M, Leggings – Forever 21, Hat – Nasty Gal, Shoes – Melrose Flea Market (Los Angeles)
22°C and sunny…perfect day to be outside exploring Toronto. I spent my Saturday shopping at the St. Lawrence Market, Eaton Centre and checking out various boutiques that caught my eye. To finish the day off right, I cooled off with a couple patio pints at the Mill St. Pub.
Since I knew I would be spending the whole day on my feet, I paired this casual outfit with my combat boots I bought at a flea market. I added this Nasty Gal hat that lets in the perfect amount of sunshine.
Hopefully this weather continues into the long weekend!
